Internet has become a very important part of life today. And having your own website has become very common. Many of these websites are created for the sole purpose of making money online. This has given rise to a tough competition for webmasters.

For any site to stand out from the rest, its design plays a very cricial role. Not only should the site be “Good-Looking”, but also it should be “Content-Rich” and “Search Engine Friendly”. Because having only a pretty site is of what use, if no visitor comes to see it. If you yourself are not a designer, then you can rope in any good web-designing company. When choosing a web design company, be sure to ask if they create Search Engine Optimized sites.

The homepage of any site, gives an impression about rest of the site to a visitor. Approximately 90% visitors will spend only 10-12 secs looking at your homepage and deciding whether to stay on your site or move on. This is the importance of homepage. Thus it should look different from rest of pages. It should be well-planned and attractive enough to hold visitors and also assure their return visits.

Some tips to build a good homepage -

• Make it concise. Most of the visitors just scan your homepage, rather that reading it thoroughly.
• Make it look attractive, by working on color-combination. Also make good use of images related to your site.
• If possible write excerpt about other pages on your site.
• Create links leading to detailed content on other pages of your site.
• Also you can use keywords and keyphrases to attract search engine ‘robots’ to your site.

Now that you have developed an attractive and well-planned homepage, you should work on other pages, and most importantly on the content. Keep following points in mind to create content rich and well organized site -

• Update your site regularly.
• Provide credible and original content only.
• Write for your users and not for the Search Engines.
• Try to write in English, as it is understood by almost all users.
• Share as much information you have as possible.
• Engage your users to increase their interactivity in your site.
• Keep your template simple and clean, so that your site loads quickly.
• Plan and Organize your site-structure well.
• Have a secure site if you are selling online.
• Have a contact us page.
