What is Domain Hijacking?

Domain name is the identity for any site, and without identity the site is nothing. And if you are not careful enough then this identity of your site may be easily stolen or hijacked.

Though Domain Hijacking is illegal, it has been very common these days. What the hijacker do is put a false transfer request for a domain and trick an unsophisticated domain owner or registrar into giving them control of the name.

Once the transfer is complete, they become the full owner of the domain. Now they con do anything with your domain. They can either sell the domain, or develope their own website on domain or just ask you for a ransom to give back your domain.

Loss of a newly registered domain will cost you registering fees only, but if an old domain is lost then it will cost you money along with your efforts to promote your domain.

How to protect your domain?

Now here are some tips that can help you protect your domain from theft or hijacking -

1. Lock your Domain – The facility of locking your domain is available with many registrars and can be done by a single click. This single click can prevent your domain from illegal transfer.

2. Keep track of your domain – Frequently check the who.is data for your domain. This way you can keep track of your expiration date, and your organization and administrative contact.

3. Be careful with domain related emails – If you get any domain related correspondence mails from someone unknown, better delete these mails.

4. Be careful while using free email services – If you have been using any free email service like gmail.com, and if you don’t login for quite a few days, then your account may be suspended or deleted. Then the hijacker may register your email address and put a request for transfer of domain leading to domain hijacking.

These few steps can protect your domains. So just be careful while handling your domains.

How to make money through expired domains?

Expired Domains

Buying and selling domains is one the methods to make money over internet. But you may have noticed that every single dictionary word that you can think of has been registered. And also you may have learned that it is very difficult ta earn a good profit from either a lengthy meaningful domain name or a short unmeaningful domain name.

Here comes the role of expired domains. Though most of the “Premium Dictionary Words” have already been registered, it is also true that many of them were registered some one decade ago and they are on the verge of getting expired. Thus you have a chance of registering an “Expired Premium Domain” for normal price.

Lets have a look over the benefits of expired domain names -

♦ As they are Premium Domain names, many other people will be interested in buying them from you at your price, as you will have many optins of buyers.

♦ Secondly as they have been over since quite a few years, search engines will be giving them a high preference in their results, thus increasing its price.

♦ Also as they are old, they are obviously going to have some PageRank….. the older the domain, more will be the PageRank… and the higher the PageRank more will be its value.

♦ If you have been lucky enough to buy an expired domain which had some good traffic, then BINGO!!! you have hit a jackpot. As this traffic will obviously get inherited , if you yourself make a site over it or sell it to anybody else.Either way you are going to make handsome money over it.

Now comes the most important question – “where to find these expired domains?” If you do a google search for “Expired Dmains” or “Deleted Domains”, you will get list of sites providing the list of expiring or expired domain names. But this facility comes for a price. You have to first join their paid membership, then only will they inform you about the expiring/expired domains.

Or if you are not willing to pay any dime for this and have ample time then you can do manual search over “Who.is“. This is not a site related to expired domains, it will just give evry information you want abuot any domain name you search for.

So its upto you what you prefer. But I’ll advice first have some basic knowledge about domain brokerage before going for it. Well WISH YOU A GOOD LUCK WITH EXPIRED DOMAINS.
